Stone Walling ~ |
| Dry stone walling is one of the oldest methods of building walls and an
art which is slowly dying out. The original method of building these walls are built using just the stone and no cement hence dry stone walling. These methods can also be tracked to ancient times from the Mayans to the Incas. We specialize in pure dry stone work where the key to the strength of these walls is down to the footings and drainage and stone selection and how the stones are used throughout the wall. We also use modern day building methods where it can be an advantage, for example using concrete blocks and then facing the blocks with stonework this especially improves the strength on retaining walls. We also can use block work in the heart of the dry stone wall when we are building up two sides this can save on time and add strength to the wall. If needed we also can carry out work building walls using lime mortar. I have carried out work before where the customer wants dry stone work and lime mortar work. I find many of clients I have worked for like to use existing stone from derelict walls on their property. The advantage of using this stone is its already weathered and can blend into the environment very well. If you wanted to match the stone already in the garden I would do my best to find the best matching stone I could to fulfil your requirements.
